If you are local and want to occasionally use a boat, you can charter 'Westerley II' and every 7th day hireage is free. You only pay for the diesel. Better still, the days need not be consecutive.
Things to do in the Bay Of Islands:
Russell, historic first capital of New Zealand
and gamefishing centre.
Opua, sail on the R. Tucker Thompson, a square rigged sailing vessel, or catch the 'Fullers'vehicular ferry to Russell.
Waitangi Treaty Grounds and Treaty House
Kawakawa, Hundertweisser world famous toilets and steam engine train
